On November 9, Hillary Rodham Clinton embraced her historic role and the symbolic nature of her 2016 presidential campaign by conceding that the highest, hardest ceiling remains unshattered. In her concession speech, Clinton maintained her lifelong theme of resilience and empowerment by encouraging daughters and granddaughters to “never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams.” Clinton’s experience in the 2016 presidential campaign reveals the challenges and obstacles encompassing entrenched gender constructs that embody the American presidency.
