Cephalopods: Intelligent Morsels of Protein: Conclusion

By Larry Spencer

Conclusion

As mentioned at the beginning of this essay, the topic of artificial intelligence has moved from the corner of an academic discipline into the limelight. Some speculate that at some time in the future, AI might even result in human extinction. Initially, organisms’ behavior was a black box for scientists, and current worries about AI stems from the fact that many of the algorithms associated with its actions are also black boxes. Over time, through studies of a variety of organisms, particularly cephalopods, scientists have come to know the intricate nature of the nervous systems of all organisms. Some of that knowledge may lead researchers to better under-stand how intelligence can be artificially modeled. Knowledge of cephalopods provides scientists with many facets of this understanding.
