Museum Studies in the Twenty-First Century: Theory and Praxis (September): Conclusion

By Juilee Decker

Conclusion

As the resources discussed in this essay attest, museum studies—as a discipline—has a broad sweep. This essay examines just a selection of print and online resources that provide an overview of museum history and theory, and that address museum functions, approaches, operations, governance, and ethics. Many more resources are discoverable through customary search tools.  In addition, blog sites and social media—including Twitter, Tumblr, and LinkedIn—should be added to the mix as important resources of current thinking. Though these appear to be ephemeral, they are rich with information. They should be included in the discourse, along with more traditional formats of scholarship, and they should be included in the preparation of lib guides and other bibliographic resource materials.
